Welcome to the British Pubs Online Mcoys Pub Quiz Page
|

McCoy's have joined forces with CAMRA and FHM to rally it's support around saving the local pub, there has been a lot of comment recently about a return to the traditional values of the local boozer and a move away from the theme pub. Pubs have always been places where you can go have a pint and muse over the day, life and the universe. It is also a place where you used to be able to join in with the local community and this is where the likes of the pub quiz come in. The pub quiz has been a traditional part of the pub make up for centuries and now faces extinction.

McCoy's have created the PUB GENIUS a nationwide search for the ultimate boozer IQ, this is hosted on www.fhm.com. But we are also offering our support to the publicans directly. We have conducted some in house research to provide the definitive guide to staging the pub quiz and this will be available to all publicans. It includes advice on hosts, design, jingles and of course the glamorous assistant.. I have attached the release and a copy of the research findings... If you need anymore details then give me a shout on the number below.

McCoy’s Fights Against Pub ‘Dumbing Down’ McCoy’s crisps has launched its search for ‘Britain’s Pub Genius’ as part of a campaign to stop what it sees as the continued ‘dumbing down’ of pubs and to try and save one of the last great British pub traditions – the quiz!

Tony Jerome, Press Manager for CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) strongly supports the cause, 'Pubs have to appeal to all kinds of people, but too many pubs fall back on large screen TV and loud music to attract certain kinds of customer while forgetting that many people go to pubs for something different, like good conversation and the chance to exercise their brains with a good pub quiz.' While themed boozers do seem to be on their way out, McCoy’s believes the real threat to traditional pubs and pastimes like the quiz remains – the ever growing presence of giant TV screens and the increasing regularity of televised sporting occasions.

With Pub Genius (found in the FHM Arms section of www.fhm.com), it’s hoping to turn the tide by demonstrating that pub quizzes remain hugely popular – and convince publicans and pub chains to reinstate them. McCoy’s spokesperson Nich Lee said: “Pubs shouldn’t just be about just watching the TV. We all like watching the odd match down the pub, but blokes love a bit of banter in their local and the traditional quiz gives them endless material and trivia for debate. But pubs seem to be turning their back on them and are intent on pumping more and more obscure football matches onto their TV screens. We even know some pubs where so-called sports such as tractor pulls and curling get played at full blast. It’s got to stop!” As well as mustering support from the public, McCoy’s is developing a fact sheet guide to traditional boozer entertainment for publicans. ‘Save The Pub Quiz’ fact sheets will be available from McCoy’s and will instruct staff on the delicate art of running a successful quiz. This will include ‘How to Break The Silence – Jokes and Anecdotes’, ‘Hecklers Vs Bouncers – Know Your Rights’ and ‘Selective Deafness – The Timewasters Enemy’ and many, many more invaluable hints and tips for the novice quizmaster. So, dust off that copy of ‘The Big Book of Pub Quizzes’, fine tune your trivia knowledge and battle it out for title of the McCoy’s British’s Pub Genius in The FHM Arms at www.fhm.com.
