One day, not such a long time ago, our founder was creating a web-site for his local pub, whilst searching the Internet for ideas on how to layout this site he came across several 'Pub Guides'. Some of these were pretty good, some were pretty bad. Some had garish colours, some were simply plain and boring. Some were slow to load the pages whilst others were fast but had little content. But the underlying theme was that the Pub Landlord/Licensee/etc either paid at least £35 a year and maybe got a pretty good service or paid nothing and you can imagine what they got!

So our exalted leader decided to set up his own online pub guide, with the intention of using the very efficient combination of PHP 4 and MySQL to enable fast page loads and his own distinct lack of any artistic temperament whatsoever to produce a well designed and aesthetically pleasing website.

Most importantly though, our founder was fed up with the dazzling array of these 'other' pub guides which sometimes had less than 10 entries and made up his mind that this new KING of 'pub guides' should be the one-stop-shop for anyone looking for pubs on the internet. To achieve this he needed the combination of simple but 'FREE' entries (so that any pub can be listed) and the 'paid' entry (to allow pubs to put whatever they want on the site). But the price must not put off any pub from putting their details on the site, so it has to be much cheaper than other sites - and that is what has been acheived.

But what happens if the pub changes owner, name or the guest beer? The Landlord wants to update these details instantly, not send an email to the webmaster or snail mail an amendment form, or even PAY for any changes, so we give the pub unlimited and free changes to their details which are instantaneously applied to the site.

What about special events like a 'Big Rock Band' playing in the Beer Garden? Well one option a pub can subscribe to is the One Off Events option which allows them to specify dates and name of an event etc, and visitors to the site can search events in an area on a specific date, thereby bringing in more punters to the pub.
